Field

Site pictures

For many years The Camp, then known as Yorkshire Sunday School Camp was set up each year in a field loaned from one of several generous farmers. Cattle were removed from the rutted field and the tents erected. Everything including washing, eating, cooking and sleeping took place under canvas. It was obvious that the monumental task of taking all the required equipment out of storage, often travelling several miles, then putting it all together was a heavy demand upon resources.
For many years the vision was to purchase land of our own to simplify matters. Saving started and many prayers made as to where we should look to put down roots. After much debate and a few failed attempts the current site at Misterton was obtained with the added benefit of a barn and some derelict out buildings. The camp was first held at the new site in 2001

Site development

Since then there has always been plenty of jobs to be undertaken, finances permitting. After bad flooding in the first year a decision was made to install irrigation to prevent a reoccurrence. Electricity and water supplies to marquees and points around the perimeter of the field were also installed.

Work days

The bulk of this work has taken place on work days when often only small numbers of unskilled volunteers have turned up to lend a hand. The work in itself has been a time of great encouragement and fellowship. If you are interested in helping contact the site team here. There is always something to assist with whether its painting tent frames, putting up a fence or rebuilding a wall. We would ask for your prayers for this work if you can come along or not. God has been gracious and we give thanks for what has already been achieved. We also ask for safety and provision in the future plans.

Here are the proposed dates for the Camp Work Days for the first half of 2010 - Normally the 2nd Saturday in the month:

    • 13th Feb (Weather Permitting)
      13th March
      10th April
      8th May
      19th June (And Open Day)
      10th July

    Gifts

If you are not able to give a hand physically then in addition to prayer we would welcome gifts either financial or practical items - tools etc.

    Works completed

To date including the purchase of the field we have spent around £100,000. This has included

    • Irrigation
    • Electricity and water supplies
    • Kitchen
    • Perimeter fencing and gates
    • Large septic tank
    • Toilet blocks on field
    • Piped gas supply from storage tank
    • Temporary shower blocks
    • Workshop
    • Washing up area
    • Tractor / grass cutter

    Forward plans

Current activity is focussing around refurbishment of one of our out buildings to act as a permanent housing for the tractor and other equipment. The next major phase of development planned is the construction of a permanent toilet and shower block alongside the existing barn.
Longer term we are hoping to be able to renovate the larger outbuilding to provide basic accommodation with the potential to hold house groups and church week ends. This is if planning consent is obtained, a particular item for your prayer lists. To find out more about these plans or even to request a visit from members of the Trust or publicity team to your church please contact us here.
